Draft #1

Hi Nana,

I decided to write you an old school letter about my college experience instead of a boring old text. College has been very eventful as you can probably assume. I’ve been busy running around and completing all of my schoolwork. But you know that’s chump change and I’ve been having a lot of fun too and that’s all you want to hear about. One of the first things I did was go to one of my roommate’s field hockey games. She plays for the varsity team, so I was excited to go and see her play. She played an awesome game and even started as a freshman which is something to be very proud of. I was amused with all the chatter in the stands as most people have no idea how field hockey works. I was giving a play by play to my friend who came with me because she didn’t know what was going on either. They ended up losing the game 0-3. However, in an awesome turn of events they went on to win the division championship which is super cool and I’m so proud of my roomie.

Another large event that I went to was bingo. I can already hear you calling me an old lady but its fine. They take bingo very seriously here at UNE and a lot of people show up to win a prize. People get really into it and there is constant chatter and screaming; you would be surprised. They even mark your hand with an X so that you don’t grab two boards (crazy I know). When they call off a number, they type it on computer which projects on the wall. There is always a chorus of booooos or yays. It gets very loud in the gym and people get extremely competitive. It’s actually really hilarious seeing people get so heated over an old lady game (yea I said it, you can yell at me later for that one). Bingo lasts a few hours because they have all different types, and the prizes are big baskets of items. I almost won elimination Bingo. There were about 8 people left and all my friends were absolutely screaming cheering for me, but I ended up loosing to three other people. I haven’t won anything yet, but I hope I will at some point.

I was so excited to go rock climbing because I haven’t been able to as it conflicts with field hockey practice. We went to Evo Rock in Portland which I had been at before with OnBelay. It was a Halloween climb so we dressed up and I was an alien from toy story complete with a tutu and three eyes on my head. It was funny to see everyone in costume and they were actually pretty good with my favorite one being Bob Ross. We got to the gym and received our equipment. I went to go put on my shoes and I thought I was going insane, but I finally realized he had given me two left feet. I swear I sat there for a solid thirty seconds so confused before I realized. I was cracking up in typical fashion and my friends were so confused. Eventually we were all set and started climbing and it was awesome. I hadn’t realized just how much I missed it and it brought back so many good childhood memories from OnBelay. About an hour in they turned off all the lights and we had a glow climb in the dark. We were all decked out in glow sticks and a headlamp topping off the outfit. Climbing in the dark was definitely a fun time. I already know you are going to call me crazy, but I loved it.

Draft #2

Hi Nana,

I decided to write you an old school letter about my college experience instead of a boring old text even though you like to blow up my phone. College has been very eventful as you can probably assume. I’ve been busy running around and completing all of my schoolwork. One thing I learned is how difficult it is to change sheets when you are on the top bunk. It absolutely sucks. It takes me twenty minutes and I break out into a sweat because of how difficult it is. I learned this the first week and it is something I absolutely dread doing. It really tests my patience which is something I do not have for putting the sheets on my bed. Also, it never looks put together which really bothers me. It always looks messy because it’s so difficult to tuck in the corners and just make the bed. (Weekly Reflections – Angelina’s Site (uneportfolio.org) Week#1)

I also just don’t like being on the top bunk in general and I think the feelings are mutual. On week #2 as a college student, I feel off my bunk and let me tell you I was sore for weeks. I’m surprised I didn’t break anything, but I absolutely knocked the wind out of myself. Neither of my roommates were there so I just laid on the ground for a while trying to catch my breath. I didn’t even scream I just was in shock but then started laughing at myself because I knew I was going to fall off of it at some point. I called mom and dad that week and told them and they just laughed at me because I told them it was going to happen at some point. (Weekly Reflections – Angelina’s Site (uneportfolio.org) Week #2)

So that’s a little update about my experience here at UNE so far. I’ve been having a good time and as you can see been doing a lot to keep me busy. But it evens out and keeps me out of trouble too. Hope you are doing good too! See you in a few weeks.

Love you lots,

Angelina

Draft #3 (Final)

Hi Nana,

I decided to write you an old school letter about my college experience instead of a boring old text even though you like to blow up my phone. College has been very eventful as you can probably assume. I’ve been busy running around and completing all of my schoolwork. But you know that’s chump change and I’ve been having a lot of fun too and that’s all you want to hear about. You know how you always tell me to drive fast and swerve? Well yea I’ve taken that one literally and applied it my college experience. I’ve been going nonstop and getting the best out of my time here.

One of the very first things I did was go to one of my roommate’s field hockey games. She plays for the varsity team, so I was excited to go and see her play. She played an awesome game and even started as a freshman which is something to be very proud of. I was amused with all the chatter in the stands as most people have no idea how field hockey works. It’s a mix of students supporting their friends and parents getting mad at the refs for making a “bad” call. At least when I yell, I know what I’m talking about. I was giving a play by play to my friend who came with me because she didn’t know what was going on. The team ended up losing the game 0-3. However, in an awesome turn of events they went on to win the division championship this season which is super cool and I’m so proud of my roomie. It takes me twenty minutes and I break out into a sweat because of how difficult it is. I learned this the first week and it is something I absolutely dread doing. It really tests my patience which is something I do not have (I get that one from you thanks Nana). Also, it never looks put together which really bothers me. It always looks messy because it’s so difficult to tuck in the corners and just make the bed. Dad always makes fun of me too, yelling at me to make my bed as he always does. I fire right back at him saying it’s the best he’s going to get. (Weekly Reflections – Angelina’s Site (uneportfolio.org) Week#1)

I also just don’t like being on the top bunk in general and I think the feelings are mutual. On week #2 as a college student, I feel off my bunk and let me tell you I was sore for weeks. I called mom and dad that week and told them and they just laughed at me because I told them it was going to happen at some point. Thank god I brought up a heating pack with me because I was lying flat on my stomach with it on my back every night for the next week. Field hockey practice was not fun after that I could barely run. I was also awarded with a giant scratch on my back and some bruises too which was lovely. I have come to the conclusion that I’m never going to be on a top bunk again, it just isn’t in the cards for me.  (Weekly Reflections – Angelina’s Site (uneportfolio.org) Week #2)

Another big event that I went to was bingo. I can already hear you calling me an old lady but its fine. They take bingo very seriously here at UNE and a lot of people show up to win a prize. So that’s a little update about my experience here at UNE so far. I’ve been having a good time and as you can see and been doing a lot to keep me busy. But it evens out and keeps me out of trouble too as you would say. So just a little recap of what I have learned:

Most people don’t know anything about field hockey

Never take the top bunk you will regret it

Don’t mess with college kids’ bingo

Climbing in the dark is more fun

It’s definitely been a learning curve, but I think I’m getting the hang of everything. Classes have been going pretty good too we only have two weeks left and then finals. Then I get to come home for break and give you a big hug! I Hope you are doing good! See you in a few weeks.

Love you lots,

Angelina
